Newplicate Niche

District 3 strongly supports bridge for newcomers. We call our Newcomer Games “Newplicate” – a phrase coined more than 20 years ago by our largest unit, Unit 140 in Central Jersey. It is a great name because it says it all. Playing in a warm, welcoming atmosphere, these Newplicate games are for players relatively new to tournament bridge and are limited to those with fewer than 200 masterpoints. ALL EVENTS AWARD RED POINTS.

Cheryl Porter-Garofalo is our Newplicate Director and friend. She comes to all our regionals that offer a Newplicate program, arranges partnerships, sells the entries, runs the games, and even makes the snack lunch for the break between sessions. Yes, that’s right. District 3 offers a free snack lunch between sessions for all participants

in our Newplicate games who play both sessions in a day. During this little lunch break, everyone has an opportunity to go over the hands they just played, get a few pointers, and make new friends with whom to play bridge.

Now we have expanded our schedule to include the Golden Opportunity Pairs for players with fewer than 750 masterpoints. GOLD POINTS are awarded for overalls and section tops. A two-session event, it encourages our newer players to “go for the gold.”

District 3 runs four regionals a year. Our Newplicate games are held at the Rye Town Hilton in Rye Brook, NY, in January; the Parsippany Sheraton in August; and the Sheraton Danbury in October. These games are stratified when possible. In June we run Intermediate games which are for players with up to 300 masterpoints at “The Saratoga” in Saratoga Springs.

District 3 wants you to know WE CARE. New players are the future of our game. We welcome you with open arms and lots of fun, food, and prizes every time you play at one of our regionals. Plan to join us as often as possible.
