Letter from a Player

New Gold LM is looking for a pair for GNTs. Read why?

Dear Joann,

Thank you very much for sending this missive acknowledging my achievement. You know, I live at the very edge of civilization in the bridge world – way up here in the North Country, where we have 3–table games in Canton, and (only sometimes) in Ogdensburg. And, I should say, I am not retired, so I can play live only in summer, and, occasionally, in sectionals and regional events in Canada. Live bridge, alas, dwindles up here in the North. So I play my bridge now mostly on BBO: twice a week with my partner, Ian MacKellar, on the 4:10 BBO game, and once or twice a day on other BBO Bot games, most recently the daylong IMPS, where I have finally sussed the game inside the game, and recently enjoyed a certain success.

Let me close with this. Ian and I would very much like to play in the qualifying tournament for the Grand Nationals, but none of the players up here are up to that level of competition, and, since Covid, all our contacts with other players in 11 have dried up. Should you know other pairs in our district looking to compete, we would appreciate immensely if you could put us in contact.

Allow me to say again, thank you for your note.

My best,

Roy
